Mount Diablo Sentinel Rock, 7.2 miles, 1,555 feet elevation, 20% shaded

Looking for a unique Bay Area adventure? Let’s hike up to Sentinel Rock at Rock City. Mt. Diablo is truly an ecological treasure of our Bay Area. One of the unique qualities of Mt. Diablo is that the mountain formed from a mass of rock that was gradually forced up through the earth’s surface. We encounter older and older rocks as we climb. Each tells a story of previous landscapes, climates, and life forms that was shaped by water, wind, and time over millions of years. It’s super fun climbing up the stairs carved into the rock with guard rails, like a miniature Half Dome.

Bring water, snack, hat, and poles. Dogs are not allowed at Mt. Diablo to protect wild life.

Meet 9:20am at the end of Emmons Canyon Drive, Alamo. (address 1565 Emmons Canyon Drive, Alamo) Driving directions: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Tim8hSnue1wA2QV7A?g_st=ic Free residential parking. Restroom at Live Oak Camping ground, half way of our hike. To be respectful to local residents, we will meet 50 feet into the country road near the lime green water tank.
