Hike + Volunteer with ASCEND Sustainability Club & Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy
Details
Join ASCEND climbing gym's Sustainability Club and Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy on Saturday, November 16, to explore Hays Woods and help remove some invasive plants!
Hays Woods is Pittsburgh's newest greenspace. It's also a sprawling urban wilderness. (626 acres of forest, wetlands, and meadows to be exact.) The land was previously disrupted by mining activity during Pittsburgh's industrial era, and large areas are overrun with invasive plants today.
But there's hope! Volunteering really makes a difference—especially if said volunteers have excellent grip strength. (Cue the climbers.)
We'll meet with PPC's ecological coordinator at 9 am for a short hike followed by a bit of good old-fashioned manual labor. Orange vests, gloves, and tools will be provided. Please wear sturdy, close-toed shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. Be sure to bring your own bottled water.
