What we’re about
Please, do not join this group unless you are 100% confident that you will be an ACTIVE member by at least participating TWICE per year by attending events.
*It REALLY * takes a lot of time and energy for organizers and event hosts to create events. By participating in events, you acknowledge their hard work and your interest in the group and its members. It shows commitment and personal responsibility.
IF you sign up for an event but need to cancel, please, change your RSVP at least 24 hours prior to the start of the event to allow other members to attend. Failure to do so will result in a "No Show."
Inactive members and those who have an excess of changing RSVP or No Shows will be removed from the group. 3+ RSVP changes and 2 No Shows will result in removal.
Hi Almadenians!
This group is meant for people 55+ that want to be ACTIVE by participating in events that will also allow you to meet other members with similar interests.
We offer a variety of activities such as hikes, kayaking, board games, music in the park, live music, art fairs, theater... You are always welcome to post an event of your preference.
Please, post a close-up picture of yourself in your profile that shows only your face (no minors in the photo).
OUR HIKES ARE NOT INTENDED FOR HIKERS WHO LIKE TO HIKE AS A WAY OF EXERCISING.
WE HIKE TO ENJOY NATURE, THE COMPANY OF OTHER HIKERS AND TO, ALSO, EXERCISE. OUR NORMAL PACE IS 2-3 MILES/HOUR DEPENDING ON THE HIKE AND THE LEVEL OF THE MEMBERS ATTENDING.
OUR FINISH TIME IS AN APPROXIMATION BUT NOT A DEADLINE. MANY TIMES, WE LIKE TO GO OUT FOR LUNCH AFTER THE HIKE.
We are open to suggestions for events and we welcome members who want to participate in adding events to our calendar or becoming event hosts!
Out of respect for event hosts who spend time in planning and designing events and for members in the WAITLIST only sign up for events you read the entire information about and are pretty sure you will attend.
Members who do not participate in events and/or have a history of signing up and changing their RSVP last minute or are "no shows" will be dropped from the group.
Please, let me know if you are interested in becoming an event host.

XMAS ARTS & CRAFTS IDEASLOCATION:
My house is located between Snell Avenue and Blossom Hill Rd in San Jose (very close to Aqui's restaurant). Address will be sent the day before the event via meetup email. If you do not get the address, please text me at (408) 425-2827INTRODUCTION:
Dear Meetup Friends,
As many of you know, I retired early in my career as a high school Bio/Chemistry teacher (I had enough of public education BS).
At this new stage of my life, I find myself constantly looking for new ways to "discover" hidden talents I may have not developed over the years. Not an easy task.
I recently started learning knitting. I find it relaxing & personally rewarding. One of our members, Liz, introduced me to a type of drawing called Zen Tangle. I am truly enjoying it as well. Both, knitting & drawing, are different and bring about unique experiences. However, there are many other rewarding types of artistry I am willing and eager to learn.
I know, as a teacher, that group work is the best way to learn and the most fun. Wouldn't you agree?
There is an endless number of artistry we can learn from each other and enjoy.
Join us and discover the magic of arts & crafts!PURPOSE:
I know many of you are talented crafters and that many of you want to try "new things" as you progress into a new stage in your life.
I would like for this event to become a weekly activity where we come together to work on our current projects and eventually teach each other new arts & crafts techniques.
Ideally, I would love for some of us to take the role of teachers so we can learn new crafts from each other.ARTS & CRAFTS EXAMPLES:

SEATING CHART & COSTI love live theater and I miss it a lot! Hillbarn Theater is located in Foster City.
I have seen many performances over the past years and I have never, ever, ever been disappointed. However, it's been more than a decade since my last performance (shame on me, really, for I love it!). As I recall, the theater itself is quite small and cozy which means that there are no "bad seats."
I hope you can join Craig and I for this midday enchanted musical event and, maybe, an early dinner before heading back home.TIME:
The play starts at 2:00 pm but I suggest meeting us a bit earlier to chit-chat and get to know each other with a glass of wine (the theater used to sell wine, coffee, tea... and I hope they still do).ABOUT THE PLAY:
ANASTASIA

Featuring a lush score that includes beloved songs like “Journey to the Past” and “Once Upon a December,” as well as stunning new music, Anastasia is a heartwarming and visually spectacular story of love, family, and self-discovery that will captivate audiences of all ages.
Her past is a mystery. Her future is an adventure. From the creators of Tony award winning Broadway classic Ragtime, this dazzling show transports its audience from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, where a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. She is pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer who is determined to silence her. Anya enlists the aid of a dashing con man and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home,
