What we’re about
I've been involved in the sport of hot air ballooning for 37 years (FAA commercial certification) and am always eager to share the fun and experience with others who are interested in the sport or would just like to try something different. It's a morning sport (think dawn) and very weather dependent. I get weather briefings before each flight, however the wind can still be unpredictable so I'll only fly in safe, retrievable conditions. I will teach you how to crew for a balloon (help inflate, chase, pack up, deal with landowners, etc.) and learn something about weather along the way. You'll definitely have fun and may get hooked on the sport. I fly for fun and in return for 4 crewing days you will be eligible for a free ride.
My local flying is done from the Tracy airport on the south side of town with a typical flight lasting about 2 hours and usually goes out over Central Valley farmland. You should be done around 11AM or so depending on the conditions and time of the year. There is physical activity involved so be prepared for some exercise. Preferred dress is all cotton layered clothing, long sleeve shirt, hiking boots and leather gloves if you have them.
Planning, dependability and punctuality is essential so I'd appreciate it if you would think it over before you commit to an invite. No children and pets please.
Hope to have you join me.
Anyone interested in learning about hot air balloon crewing.
Note: this is NOT a meetup for paid rides. You must crew 4 times for a free ride.
