Synopsis
June, a talented yet unrecognised writer, finds herself overshadowed by her friend Athena, a literary sensation. According to June, Athena has it all - money, fame, one bestselling novel after another - not because Athena is a much better writer than her, but because Athena is a beauty in the public eye and fits into the politically correct landscape, while June herself is just a “brown-haired, brown-eyed white woman from Philly.”But then a freak accident happened, June seems to find a light at the end of the tunnel. But, is it? With its immersive first-person narrative and razor-sharp critique, this book explores the complexities of ambition, identity, and success with a sheen of racial politics and cultural diversity.
