The first meet-up

The first meeting is a get-to-know gathering over a coffee. We will have more detailed plans about watching films or discussing them for future events. There is no entry fee but you need to buy your own drinks.

This is a group for people who love arthouse films. Art house is a broad category but just to explain I mean films that diverge from the mainstream such as those made by Michelangelo Antonioni, Federico Fellini, Robert Bresson, Lars Von Trier, Abbas Kiarostami, Chantal Akerman, Yasujiro Ozu, etc. In this group, we want to find like-minded people for whom film is not just fun or entertainment. It is something more than that, something maybe transcendental. We will watch films together, read about them and discuss them and through that, we will form friendships based on something profound.

We don't need to have watched a lot of these movies. We are fans of arthouse films and if we get a chance, we will watch many of them together.

Just a note, as much as we might enjoy some of the films made by Tarantino, Fincher and some other mainstream directors, we will not discuss them as they do not usually belong to the art film category.
