What we’re about
This is a group for anyone interested in exploring our great, local trails, lake & river. Whether you ride a bike, hike, or paddle, you are welcome to join our meetup events. All skills levels are welcome. We started this group to meetup with other outdoor enthusiasts and learn of new places to explore, together. Most members live in the Ukiah valley area. Looking forward to exploring the county's outdoors with everybody. Any group member who becomes an event organizer can post outdoor activities to invite others.
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Coyote Valley DamSouth Lake Mendocino, Ukiah, CA
By general agreement, we will start at the dam at 11am and hike to the spillway, a lollipop loop. The distance is about 3.8 miles.
Most hike about about 2.5 mph. We're pretty easy-going with some turning early & taking shorter loops. We all like having the meetup that brings us out hiking. There are several benches along the way for some to sit and rest.
The following is an interesting webpage with the history and purpose of the reservoir.
SF District - Lake MendocinoWe usually start walking on time. With the sign-ups, we have an idea of who to expect might wait 5 minutes. There are poison oak plants along the trail that have already lost their leaves. The dirt in winter is very slippery. Some wear tread and some use hiking poles (extra workout on the biceps/triceps, as well as good stability).
Last spring, we saw a rattlesnake on the south side of the lake. A few years back, we heard pig. Again, poison oak lines the trail, wear long pants & long shirts, if susceptible. Always we look out for bird life. We started walking here as a meetup in 2015. Come join us. It's been fun making new friends and seeing old friends on our walk. There's lot of talking, and also a lot of quiet walking. We're pretty easy-going and like it all!

- Holiday Day Light Tour on BicycleUkiah, CA 95482, Ukiah, CA
Hi all, after much discussion and idea sharing, the Progressive Dinner on Bicycle is here on meetup! This will have elements of potluck, but we'll continue with the conversation to finalize plan. We'll have private conversations as to who will bring what and where. Please do not post personal information here.
The overall plan:
Let's meet at 4pm at the Ukiah City Hall Parking Lot. Dress accordingly. Wear Warm Gloves, Warm layers of jackets, pants, and be prepared for the wind. Rain will change the plan! Decorate your bike with bright colorful lights so that you can be seen by cars! All the rules of the road, apply. Front lights, rear light are required. The idea is to see the holiday lights on the west side of Ukiah while we, progress from house to house for hor d'oeuvres, (good Wiki article ) and cocktails, then soup, then salad, then main course, then aperitif, then we will for sure end with Adel & Joyce hosting dessert with an outdoor firepit into the night. Some along the way will share singing and guitar playing, and piano playing, and uke playing with favorite holiday and non=holiday songs.
Another great idea is to call it "Safari Supper" with the next location unknown to all until the current host announces the next. The direction we bicycle will depend on our good neighbors in the west side of Ukiah who have decorated their homes. Plan on at least one mile of bike riding between courses. (14 courses in this article)
Considering that, as a meetup, we are new to each other, we ask that you come to at least three meetups before attending, or are personal friends with someone who has attended that many. I will share the locations in private messages before the final week. Accommodations will be made for those who need assistance.
If the weather is good, this will be a lot of fun!
