Hike Gans Creek Trail
Details
Hike roughly 7.0 miles; moderately difficult with water crossings, rocky terrain, 180-foot elevation gains (in places 15-25% grade). Wild upper reaches of Gans Creek, bordered by limestone cliffs, punctuated by scenic oak woodlands – all within the 750-acre Gans Creek Wild Area, designated for the preservation of ‘natural & wild places’ and ‘biodiversity’.
What to Bring: sturdy hiking boots, water, snacks to share, hiking stick (if desired). Be prepared for winter conditions with layered clothing, wool socks, warm hats, and gloves.
Base Layer (synthetic underwear layer): wicks sweat off skin (No cotton!)
Middle Layer (insulating layer): retains body heat to protect you from the cold
Outer Layer: (shell layer): protects you from the wind and rain.
