**Hike Options**

* 3.7 miles Orange to Purple to Yellow (go left) back to Orange (easiest, Orange is wide asphalt)
* 4.2 miles Orange to Purple to Yellow (go left) to a single track .5 mile rustic foot trail back to Orange
* 4.6 miles Orange to Purple to Yellow (go left) to wider Black trail back to Orange
* 6.2 miles Orange to Purple to Yellow (go left) full Yellow trail
* 10+ miles Orange to Purple to Yellow (go left) full Yellow trail but take Black trail across Quentin to Deer Grove East
* 4 miles Rustic winding single track creek trail - Orange then go left to foot trails (all intermediate hike)
* 10+ miles: Combine Full yellow loop and 4 mile rustic winding single track trails

Limited copies of each map available. I will do the full yellow trail loop at a pace of 3mph or a bit under. Post hike event and optional lunch like last year!

What better way to kick off a New Year than with an invigorating, fun-filled hike! This will be the 5th annual New Years day hike and keeping the tradition.
We'll hike the Yellow trail loop from shelter 5. Park in Grove 5 and take Orange trail to purple, then yellow. Its mostly wooded and a nice hike.

Very little asphalt nor concrete trails here. Expect almost all dry crushed gravel or hard-packed dirt.

I recommend good boots with traction because we encountered some areas that were slippery. If there is snow or ice ice cleats highly recommended.

Be prepared to step on uneven surfaces. Expect about .2 miles of muddy areas if weather has been above freezing and rainy.

There are some small hills and its a nice wooded hike even in Winter. Dogs are welcome.

**IMPORTANT:**
Its a large forest preserve with multiple entrances.
Remember that there is an "East Deer Grove forest" and a "West Deer Grove forest"
We are meeting in West Deer Grove Forest Preserve.
This hike is on the western end off of Quentin road.
It is not in the parking lot off of Dundee road.

**Location:**
On Quentin Rd, North of Dundee Rd (route 68) and South of Lake Cook.

**Directions:**
If you use your GPS or Map directions by googling "Deer Grove" there is a good chance that you will end up at the wrong entrance.

If you are traveling westbound on Dundee road, then Quentin Road will be about 2 miles west of Rand.

If you are traveling Eastbound on Dundee road Quentin will be about 1.6 miles east of Northwest highway (14).

1. Once you turn in you'll see a split for Grove 1,2,3 and another for Grove 4,5
2. You need to make a right turn to head toward Grove 4-5.
3. Keep on driving all the way to the end, nearly .7 mile.
4. You'll see a large Brick picnic shelter. Meet in front of it.
5. If you come to the end of the forest preserve road and can go no further, just follow the loop back around and surely you'll see the large brick picnic shelter.
6. Meet in front of the brick picnic shelter.
