**It's time our group has a Pacific Island adventure, and 2025 will be the year to see some new locations**.

For this ride meet at the Campbell River Ferry Docks with our bicycles geared up on the Saturday for the 9:00AM departure.

We ride onto the ferry and take the passage to the west shore of Quathiaski Cove on Quadra Island where we will take the day to tour the island. We ride from the village center to the Cape Mudge Lighthouse through the We Wai Kai First Nation and along the east shores of the island trail and then around to Heriot Bay. After touring the island center we can venture up the winding mountain (very narrow) roads deeper into the island.

One very special ride is into the Rebecca Spit, where we can relax and take in the ocean spray on benches Quadra has built all along each side of the Spit.

This is a beautiful island with an interesting culture. Many of the **"inner" islanders** are made up of first generation 'hippies' and in fact we may be able to joint them for a special movie night at the community hall where the movie of choice is usually a socially conscience documentary followed my a soup kitchen and fellowship. The '**outer' islanders** are the opposite, primarily made up of newer richer folk who use the island as a seasonal residence, one of which is David Suzuki.

Saturday will be a full day as I suspect we will want to stop and tour taking in the trendy coffee shops, mall, beaches, markets and historical sites along the way. We depart Quadra on the 6:00 - 6:30PM ferry and return to our hotels in Campbell River. (Make sure you have a headlight for you bikes with you in case it gets dark on this heavily treed island.)

Sunday, we meet for breakfast at 8:00 AM in the D.I. Restaurant & Lounge inside the Coast Discovery Inn in Campbell River and plan our day ride in and around Campbell River.

This is an all pavement (and packed trail) Tour so your best bicycle will be a typical 700c hard tail or touring bike (gravel bike) with tires of 32-40mm wide. Although there are off-road trail system on the island, we will not be indulging, so a MTB or full suspension bicycle is not ideal for the planned ride.

There are plenty of hotels in Campbell River (and some are willing to allow the bicycles to be brought in and locked inside the lobby under staff watch). Most rooms run 96-150/night (plus tax) Most are with a five to 15 minute ride to the ferry docks.

**Proposed Itinerary**
**Friday**

* 6:00 PM - Friday Night Social @ SolCal Restaurant & Lounge (2231 S Island Hwy, Campbell River)

**Saturday**

* 9:00 AM - Arrive on our bikes at the Campbell River Ferry Docks
* 9:30 AM - Tour the south end of Quadra Island, Cape Mudge Lighthouse and the We Wai Kai First Nation
* 12:00 AM - Tour the Rebecca Spit
* 1:30 PM - Lunch at Heriot Bay
* 2:30 PM - Tour mountain climb deeper into the island and back down and take in the Island Center Loop from Heriot Bay to Quathiaski Cove.
* 4:30 PM - Rubberneck the shops (Mall and Marketplace), Coffee at [Cafe Aroma](https://www.cafearomaquadra.ca/) (cool trendy spot)
* 6:00 - 6:30PM - Board the Ferry to Campbell River

**Sunday**

* 8:00AM - Breakfast Meeting at the D.I. * 9:30AM - Muster and ride Vancouver Island based on the groups decisions.

**Monday**

* Head back to Alberta

It is strongly suggested that you stay at Campbell River so the group musters at the ferry together. It's cheaper to ride on the ferry with a bike rather than drive your vehicle. Also rooms are cheaper at Campbell River than Quadra.
