What we’re about

Welcome to our Mindfulness and Addiction Support Group Meetup Group. This group will explore how mindfulness principles and practices can help those struggling with addictions and enhance well-being. Scientific studies and anecdotal reports have demonstrated that regular practice of mindfulness will help mitigate cravings, manage stress that often trigger use, enhance self-compassion, live in the now rather than obsessing about the past and worrying about the future, and accepting rather than resisting what is happening in the present moment.

The group is not limited to those who are struggling with drug and alcoholic addiction but other unhealthy obsessions with such issues as food, sex, pornography, codependency, and other compulsive behaviors. The principles and practices of mindfulness and present-moment awareness can, with some practice and commitment, mitigate these behaviors and their consequences.

Non-judgment is at the core of mindfulness. Those struggling with addictions often have difficulty forgiving themselves and others. Mindfulness meditation promotes non-judgment as a byproduct of its regular practice.

Included within mindfulness and addiction is the practice of loving-kindness, which promotes self-compassion, addresses resentments toward others, and fosters forgiveness of oneself and others. “Resentments are like taking poison and expecting the other person to die.” And these resentments can lead to acting out and destroying close relationships.

Each participant in this group may maintain their anonymity by using a different Meetup name and turning their video off during our gatherings. The core requirements of each of the events are confidentiality, mutual respect, non-criticism, and non-judgment.

Although there will be some sharing during the events within this group, they will focus primarily on mindfulness practices led by experienced practitioners and teachers of mindfulness who have used these practices in their struggles with addictions.

Join us on a journey of self-discovery and compassion as we explore evidence-based body-mind-spirit connections, reduce stress, release harmful habits, and create a supportive community. Learn techniques for mindful breathing, emotional regulation, relaxation, and loving-kindness.
