The location was a well known meeting place between the indigenous and and the white traders, and the Credit River was known to them as Missinhe. In 1720, a trading post was built and the area known today as Mississauga entered recorded history!
The first building was English built in 1798 on the east bank of the river. Lieutenant Governor Simcoe had ordered some sort of rest stop for travellers, but was destroyed by fire years later!
Mississauga came of age in the early 1970s with the amalgamation of several towns in the area. However, near disaster brought the community together and Mississauga started to grow. Today it is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada, and growth remains brisk. Mississauga is a fascinating city to discover and explore. You will enjoy this walk, for that I am sure, and I'm very rarely wrong, just saying.
This walking tour is for all walking levels and fitness skills. Please dress for the season and bring water. And remember to bring your love of history.
This tour begins under the lighthouse at 105 Lakeshore Road West in Mississauga overlooking the Credit River. The tour returns to the start location after the walk!
This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person!
