The Growth of US Federal Debt and the Development of AI: What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

The Growth of US Federal Debt

In 2014 the US Federal Debt was $17 trillion. Today, it is $32 trillion and growing at almost 2 trillion dollars per year. In the meantime, we have made promises to our retired citizens via Medicare and Social Security that grow yearly as our retired community expands. At the same time, our birth and fertility rates are falling, and our healthcare costs are expanding well beyond the rate of inflation.

  1. What could possibly go wrong?

The Development of Artificial Intelligence

Elon Musk, who should be able to make a good guess, believes that there is an 80-90% probability that over the long term, the development of AI will lead to a life of abundance for every human and a 10%-20% chance that things will go wrong and lead to a terrible future for humanity [or no future].

In this presentation, we will explore these probabilities.

If either of these two topics interests you, please attend.

The first 30 minutes of this presentation are called Random Bits. This is when anyone can mention anything they have learned recently relating to what life may be like in the near or distant future. At 10 AM the presentation begins. We run until 11:30 AM but if there is interest we can extend until Noon.
