Talk description
Augmented and virtual reality headsets are generating both massive excitement and skepticism, and of course, there’s a generative AI angle to consider. But what are these devices really like to use?

In this presentation, Damian will take you on a journey through the evolution of headsets, showcasing devices from his personal collection. Starting with early models like the original Oculus Developer Kit (DK1) and Google Glass, and moving to today’s Meta Quest, XREAL Air, Meta Ray-Bans, and of course, Apple Vision Pro.

Damian will focus on the day-to-day experience of using these devices and share his insights on where this technology is headed. Will the future be unnoticeable glasses like Ray-Bans, or heavier, more immersive devices like the Vision Pro—or perhaps both? Come join the discussion!

With a history dating back to the clunky VR headsets of 1980s gaming arcades, Damian has built software for both Oculus and Vision Pro, and is passionate about where this tech is going next.

Speaker
Damian Mehers started programming on 8 bit microcomputers in the early eighties, and still loves it: Imagining something and then making it real is magic.
He has built and sold several software product businesses, worked for startups such as Evernote (back when it was a startup), as well as working as consultant at large multinationals such as Nestle. He currently has several apps in the app store, one of which is almost always in the top 50 apps for its category and sometimes in the top 200 apps overall.
