Exploring Hormones, Steroids, and Biological Regulators - Open Science Talk
Details
Join us for an evening of exploring scientific literature - can we build a more nuanced understanding of the role of hormones and steroids in medical disorders. We are specifically focusing on the hormones derived from cholesterol, so we won’t be talking about all hormones
We will start by covering some of the basics of hormones and signaling in mammalian and human biology. We will dig into a large bucket of information on other hormones and signaling compounds such as:
- testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, cortisol, aldosterone and more
We will introduce steroid drugs and their effects, including hydrocortisone, and other corticosteroids.
This is an open-ended learning session. If we can document our learnings, and turn it into a medical white paper, that would be nice. We likely need more than one session to get through enough material to get to this point.
We will not discuss specific treatments for individuals, but we will make a best effort to explore basic science topics in a community learning setting. All backgrounds and interest types are welcome to attend.
