Length: 3 miles
Difficulty: Easy
Elevation gain: 50 ft
Route type: Loop
Dogs: Yes
Dear Trap Mesa is named for a game pit close to the start of the trail. Walking is easy except for a flight of rock stairs near the trail head. The trail forms a loop which goes along the rim of the mesa to three points overlooking the valley below.
Hikers should have snowshoes and/or spikes with them in case of ice and snow on the trail. (We can decide whether to use them when we see what the conditions are like.)
I expect that it will take about two and a half hours for me to hike the trail, plus one hour of driving time each way from Santa Fe, for a total trip time of four and a half hours.
Wear good hiking boots. Bring Snowshoes or Spikes, poles, hat, sunscreen, plenty of water and snacks. Dogs on leash are welcome .
