December’s book is: Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
Book choice and discussion led by Melissa Barry
Book Summary:
**"Project Hail Mary"** by Andy Weir is a gripping science fiction novel about Ryland Grace, a junior high school science teacher who wakes up alone on a spaceship called the Hail Mary with no memory of who he is or why he's there. As his memory gradually returns, he realizes he's on a mission to save Earth from an extinction-level threat posed by a mysterious organism called Astrophage, which is causing the sun to dim.
Grace discovers that he is the sole survivor of a three-person crew sent to the Tau Ceti system to find a solution. Along the way, he encounters an alien named Rocky from the 40 Eridani system, who is on a similar mission to save his own planet. Despite their differences, Grace and Rocky form a close friendship and work together to find a way to stop the Astrophage.
The novel combines scientific accuracy with humor and explores themes of survival, sacrifice, and the power of collaboration across species.
