Sunset & Monterey Lighted Boat Parade ("Brighten the Harbor")

Join us at the 33rd Annual Brighten the Harbor Lighted Boat Parade in Monterey on Sunday, Dec. 8. The boat parade is from 5:30 - 7:30. We will meet around 5 PM at one of the tables at Carlos Beach.

* Please note that this group will be discontinued on Nov. 28 because MeetUp is doubling the fees to $180 for 6 months. Between the doubling of fees and the fact that they won't allow uploading of photos or videos over 14 MB, it's better to just continue the group for free on Facebook.

* When it's cancelled, the event will disappear, so please add it to your calendar and go to FB for more details. I'll send out a note to attendees on Nov. 27 to remind everyone that it's still on, even though the MeetUp group will disappear.

I have never asked for money for this group in the past 2 years, and I would rather not start now. Gathering to watch sunsets is a simple idea, and FB is a better place for it. Sunsets are free, and MeetUp seems to be more interested in making money rather than their original mission: to help build communities. Being able to plan sunset gatherings with such unpredictable weather is difficult, but we can continue trying... on FB.

About the boat parade: A few dozen boats decorated with Christmas lights cruise from the Fisherman's Wharf toward the Aquarium and PG, and then return to the wharf. We will meet at one of the picnic tables at San Carlos Beach Park, between the grassy area and the beach. There's a good view of the boats from this elevated area.

It's going to be cool, so dress warm and consider bringing some kind of warm beverage and/or treats. I may bring some hot chocolate with some special Irish cream addition just to keep warm.

The sunset is at 4:50 PM, so we may see some pink clouds. Just look for folks hanging around one of the picnic tables. Don't be shy - just ask if we're with the Sunset Club.
