What we’re about
UPDATE June 4, 2023: Our Meetup Group is now officially full, i.e. we are not taking any more new members at this time. Prospective members may still request to join and be placed on our wait-list, and we will let you know if/when a position should open up. We are a co-ed group, trying to attain a 50/50 ratio of males to females, but the reality of the situation is that way more males sign up for these sporty Meetups than females. As a result, the wait-list for females is a lot shorter than the wait-list for males. We currently have over 100 males in our waitlist, some have even been in our waitlist since early 2022. Moonlight Beach is also a very tiny beach, where space is at a premium -- we're sorry, we just can't accommodate everyone who wants to play with us.
----------
Welcome Volleyballers!
We are a group of intermediate volleyball players who have been playing every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. since March 2021. We set up our own private nets, so we don't need to rely on public nets being available. We usually play 3 versus 3, 4 versus 4, or 5 versus 5. 2's games are not our priority, so don't expect it, but they have been known to pop up from time to time.
Our primary goal is to have fun in a relaxed and easy-going volleyball atmosphere. We are not especially keen on playing with people who repeatedly cite rule violations. We also do not play with restrictive rules commonly found in other groups which prohibit open-hand first-contacts or that specify that having too much spin on a set is deemed a double-contact.
Although we are more casual than many other volleyball groups in San Diego, we still enjoy long rallies, and for this reason, we are only looking to recruit members who are at least intermediate level or above. What does "intermediate" mean? It means you are generally striving to play 3-contact volleyball (rather than just immediately returning the ball over the net with your first contact), you make a decent effort to hustle/move to the ball to try to keep a play going rather than just watching the ball drop in your zone, you understand the setter's role in a volleyball game, and you are skilled enough to at least fairly consistently serve the ball in-bounds, return a served ball, and make controlled passes to your teammates.
Some reasons you might join our group:
1. You're looking for an encouraging environment to further develop your volleyball skills.
2. You want a social volleyball group which gets together outside of volleyball functions and knows how to have fun.
3. You love beach volleyball!
Since we are continually striving to improve our volleyball play while having fun, members are encouraged to motivate each other in a positive way. While some members may at times coach others upon request, we discourage excessive unsolicited coaching of other players.
If you're still reading this and meet the above criteria, we would love to meet you. We would encourage you to request membership to our group as soon as possible since there is currently a wait-list and membership requests will generally be processed in first come, first serve order.
