Are you up for a day hike on Sucia Island?

The boat crew of Island Opportunity Charters will drop us off at Ewing Cove. We'll hike along Echo Bay to North Echo Bay Camp, where we'll cross the island and hike along the Lawson Bluff Trail. Before we descend to Shallow Bay and the China Caves, we'll stop at the overlook to admire the view and have a snack. Back to Echo Bay Camp for lunch, then on to the ghost forest on the last leg of Shallow Bay. The trail up E.V. Henry Point in Fossil Bay is our final push for the day - the view from the top is wonderful. The boat will be waiting for us at 3:00 at the dock in Fossil Bay for return to Bellingham by 4:30. We may see Stellar sea lions around Ewing Cove . . . .

About 8 miles, 500 feet elevation gain.

We'll meet at boat ramp 7 at Squalicum Harbor at 7:45 a.m. for an 8:00 departure.

The boat cabin is heated and has a toilet. You can stand out on the front deck, but it's pretty chilly out there, so be sure to bring adequate coverage. If there's anything you don't want to take on the hike, you can leave it on the boat.

Bring lunch, snacks, and water. There's no water on the island. You may want your binoculars, too. Poles recommended as there are some muddy, rocky and rooty bits. We are sharing the boat with three other passengers. If they cancel, three more spaces will open up for our group. If the weather forecast is nasty, we'll cancel.

Cost is $110, payable by credit card, check, or cash on the boat. No deposit required.
