Pickleball at the Park (Thurs)
Details
Note, it's been getting quite chilly outside, one thermometer reading was 49F! Recommend dressing warmly with a jacket and etc as needed
I've been hearing about pickleball for awhile now, and recently had the opportunity to check it out. It's fun! Like a less intense version of Tennis. I'm thinking it'd be fun to get more into it.
These Outdoor Pickleball Courts in this park are free to use, first come first served. At the first roundabout, I take the first right/west turn and park there, then the pickleball courts are just across on the east side, down in the valley by the basketball courts. I'll typically aim to claim the courts on the south side, as it's closer to the water fountain and restrooms (but if that changes, I'll try to make mention in the comments)
I have 4 carbon fiber (~medium good?) paddles, so I'll have enough available for a standard 1v1 or 2v2, and if we get more than 4 people we can take turns if needed. Or if we have extra paddles, we can take an extra court or two if they are available. Last time, everyone had their own paddles so of the 6 of us, we had like 9-10 paddles, so if you are new, you could probably just show up and borrow equipment first for free, to see if you like it enough before investing in it. If there are multiple other groups at the park, we'll have to rotate with whomever shows up.
My limitation of 12 people for this event is primarily because of limited equipment and I don't want people waiting around too long. If you have your own equipment to bring or share, feel free to add a comment and I can add your RSVP to Going
Requirements: none
Suggested: bring a water bottle, it's important to stay hydrated! But, there's a bathroom and water fountain in the area. If there's a waitlist, lmk if you plan to bring your own equipment

-General rules for reference (I can clarify in person, not too bad once you get it)-------
similar to tennis, with differences:
-first to 11 wins, must win by 2
-like volleyball, only score a point if you win on your team's serve
-can't be in the inner area near the net (kitchen), unless ball bounces once first
-serve diagonally, behind the line, within the horizontal court lines
-must serve underhand. Either directly from hand, or drop and let it bounce, then hit it underhand
-hitting line is considered out (if serving), otherwise considered in
-double bounce rule: after serving, you must let it bounce once before hitting, for the first two volleys. So serve, let it bounce before returning, next team must let it bounce before returning, then everyone can hit it at anytime
-serving order is handled differently. Starting team has one person serve. After that, each person on the team gets to serve, before switching to other team. Before serving, three numbers are called out, yourScore - theirScore - numberOfPersonServing(1 or 2 to represent first or second person on the team to be serving)
