Synopsis:
When fate brings Belfast schoolteacher JJ into the orbit of self-confessed ‘low life scum’ Naoise and Liam Og, the needle drops on a hip hop act like no other. Rapping in their native Irish language, KNEECAP fast become the unlikely figureheads of a Civil Rights movement to save their mother tongue. But the trio must first overcome police, paramilitaries and politicians trying to silence their defiant sound — whilst their anarchic approach to life often makes them their own worst enemies. In this fiercely original sex, drugs and hip-hop biopic KNEECAP play themselves, laying down a global rallying cry for the defense of native cultures.director: Rich Peppiat

- [Arnhem] Expat Session: My Favourite Cake (2024)Focus Filmtheater, Arnhem
#This meetup is around a third-party (Focus) event, you can either purchase your ticket online or right before the session#
Synopsis:
Love knows no age limit in this heartwarming romantic comedy about Mahin, a 70-year old widow in Tehran.Every day is the same for Mahin (Lili Farhadpour): sleeping in until noon; answer Facetime calls from her daughter who lives overseas; tending to her garden and making trips to the not-so-local market from her home on the outskirts of Tehran. Hopeful of romance, she stakes out a local eatery until she finds an elderly taxi driver named Faramarz (Esmail Mehrabi) who is complaining about not having a woman at home to cook for him. Like Mahin, divorcee Faramarz has been on his own for years, and their mutual loss brings them together like well-worn puzzle pieces.
They spend a night evading nosy neighbours, getting tipsy and dancing into the early hours. In the context of Iran’s conservative values, where unmarried members of the opposite sex cannot be alone together, these acts are as political as they are romantic.
The two veteran actors have great chemistry: there’s an infectious cheekiness to their performances which makes My Favourite Cake radical and heartwarming. And above all, a reminder that in a world where everyone is judged, pure, unconditional love remains timeless.

Synopsis:
Angie and Pat are a 60-year-old couple enjoying life with family and friends in Hong Kong. They have lived together in Pat’s apartment for over thirty years and the two women are loved by their family. But when Pat suddenly dies, it soon becomes clear that the warm bond Angie has with Pat’s family is not as unconditional as she thought. For Angie, a period of mourning begins in which she fights for dignity, acceptance and the preservation of the home she shared with her beloved. All Shall Be Well is a moving and nuanced portrait of love, loss and resilience and delicately illustrates that, under pressure, tolerance can falter. The film won the Teddy Award at the Berlinale.
