What we’re about
Muddy Boots Walkers started in August 2020, during the Covid pandemic. The group is primarily a fun and friendly walking group, aimed at those who are already regular walkers and/or can walk a minimum of approximately five miles, at a moderate pace, comfortably. Potential new members should already have a moderate level of fitness and be equipped with proper walking boots and clothing suitable for the weather conditions and terrain.
Group members should live in and around the Northants, Bedford, Milton Keynes areas as walks generally take place in these areas, however walks are occasionally scheduled a bit further afield, the Peak District as an example. The walk distances will always be between 5-10 miles, with even longer walks occasionally arranged. The majority of the walks will involve some hills and rough terrain, across muddy fields, pathways and bridleways.
Social events are also scheduled on an ad hoc basis, for example meals out and live music events.
The aim of the group is to have fun and to enjoy good walking in our beautiful countryside. The walks will be no larger than about 15 people, as we find this creates a more friendly inclusive vibe. Muddy Boots is not a group where cliques are formed; this is of major importance to me having experienced this in other groups, which is why the walks and group itself will always remain smaller than other walking groups.
Once accepted into the group, the expectation is that all members regularly attend events and fully participate. For any individuals who regularly cancel their RSVP at the last minute or on the day, it would suggest that the group is not for them. For two occurrences of last minute cancellations or on the day no shows, individuals will be removed from the group, it just makes sense to do that. There are several other walking groups with larger group sizes that will probably be more suitable and able to be fully flexible with their attendance policy.
Lastly, a yearly membership fee will be introduced in January 2023, please keep an eye out for more information.
