What we’re about
The intention of this group is to provide a safe space for discussion on how we can help build a healthier, more prosperous global society.
Democracy, education, climate change, ethics, urbanism, pandemics, capitalism, transport, energy, taxation, volunteering, beliefs, political polarization, immigration… any and all topics related to human and societal development—and their effects—are welcome.
Philosophically, that would make this a “humanist” group. According to Wikipedia, Humanism has “a focus on human well-being and advocates for human freedom, autonomy, and progress. It views humanity as responsible for the promotion and development of individuals, espouses the equal and inherent dignity of all human beings, and emphasizes a concern for humans in relation to the world.” Some take this to mean Humanism must have an emphasis on secularization and even make a stand for agnosticism or atheism. This will not be the view here. Simply put, the main question of the group is: how can humans make the world a better place?
IMPORTANT
Some of the topics we will be discussing will inevitably be controversial (e.g., abortion, euthanasia, immigration, religion, taxation), so we firmly agree to start by assuming that every person in the room has the best intentions; we all want to make the world a better place—but we may disagree about how to do that. That’s ok, and it is crucial for the development of a healthy global society. We all look forward to those healthy disagreements, and we will gladly listen to what the others have to say and then respectfully express our support, additions, or disagreements.
So, let’s keep this a friendly and safe place for discussion :-)
Please write if you have any topic you would like to discuss in the group!
