Welcome to the Nassau/Suffolk County Board Games meetup group (formerly the Untitled Board Gaming Alliance). This is for those who live in Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island along with surrounding sections of the New York metro area that are interested in board gaming.
VENUE AND TIME ALLOTTED
The Bethpage Public Library is located at 47 Powell Ave. in Bethpage, Nassau County on Long Island (right off the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway – Route 135). The phone number is (516) 931-3907. Our point of contact is Lisa. You can also visit the website for more information about the library:
https://www.bethpagelibrary.info/index.html
For those who drive, parking is available in the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) commuter lot across the street. No permit is required after 5 PM. You can ignore the 2, 3, and 4 hour parking signs.
For those commuting by mass transit, the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) stops nearby (Bethpage Station).
This event is usually held in the meeting room in the basement. Sometimes if there is another event or other issues, we occupy either another room in the basement or upstairs towards the front of the library.
Members arrive and leave at various times, therefore there is no obligaton to stay for the entire time allotted. It is encouraged to post in the Comments section what time you plan arriving/leaving.
A segment of the group arrives between 5 and 5:30 PM. A good portion of the group arrives between 5:30 and 6:30 PM. David B. (Event Host) usually arrives at around 7 PM. Attendees are expected to start cleaning up at around 8:50 PM.
PROTOCOL
The library does not provide food or drinks. In addition, outside food is not permitted (drinks such as bottled water are permitted). However, there are venues nearby such as BK Sweeny’s Parkside Tavern, Red Volpe Pizzeria Ristorante, and other establishments where people can attend before the meetup.
Please RSVP responsibly. If your status changes, please update accordingly. Providing the estimated time frame you plan on arriving within and any other updates here on the message board is appreciated as well.
WHAT TO EXPECT
If you're looking for a fun and friendly group of people to play a variety of games with, join us for a Thursday meetup at the Bethpage Public Library.
Newcomers are always welcome! For those that are new to gaming as a whole or only familiar with the classics (such as Checkers, Chess, Monopoly, and Scrabble), there is a whole other world of games that you may never heard of - there should be enough people who bring games who are willing and able to teach you (see list below - you can also go to YouTube to preview and familiarize yourself with these games).
Bringing your own games is not mandatory, however if you possess any, feel free to bring them as there are always people looking to learn something new or to find a new favorite board game.
Also, it is recommended and encouraged to use the message board here to indicate which games are being brought and would like to be played.
