What we’re about
We hold meetings most Thursday evenings with a lecture and discussion. We also host frequent field trips for members to get out into Nature and learn more about this wonderful world we live in.
Members of Nature Vancouver have been working for more than 100 years to promote the enjoyment of nature, to educate ourselves and others about the natural world and to preserve and protect natural areas in the vicinity of Vancouver.

See all- New Brighton Park Restoration - Work PartyNew Brighton Park, Vancouver, BC
In 2+ years Nature Vancouver & over 250 volunteers have transformed the west side of the park. We’ve removed Scotch Broom, Himalayan Blackberry, Bull Thistle and other invasive plants. We’ve planted 1500+ native perennial flowers & shrubs and would love your help to do more!
The reason of course is that we have a good number of VPB native perennial flowers and shrubs left to plant and winter is coming.
So come and join us Saturday or Sunday or both for a soulrestoring endeavour. Many of the native perennial flowers we are putting in are new and should enhance the park with not only more diverse pollen sources but some lovely new colours.
Look forward to seeing you sometime soon!
NigelEmail [email protected] to get details of when and where to meet. Your help will make a huge difference.

This event is part of the Welcome Walk series and is designed to be inclusive and partially accessible.
Registration is required. To register, please email Trip Leaders Neil Vanhinsberg at [email protected] and Joanna Chin at [email protected] and indicate whether you’re willing to be a driver.
We will be birding from cars, making scheduled stops with short walks (50-500 meters) on trails. The trails are mostly flat, gravel or hard packed and can be suitable for people who use mobility aids. Everyone is welcome but if you have any accessibility needs, please contact the Trip Leaders in advance. We can accommodate people with mobility aids (i.e. walker, poles, cane).
We will be driving a route designed to maximize our chances of seeing Raptors. We will meet at the meeting location and carpool to scheduled stops, some with short hikes to find Raptors and winter residents. Participants need to be okay with carpooling as some stops will have limited parking spots. We are limiting the number of cars to 4 and can accommodate 18 maximum participants including drivers.
We expect to see American Kestrel, Red-tailed Hawk (possibly Harlan’s subspecies), Northern Harrier, and Bald Eagle. Other possibilities could include: Cooper’s Hawk, Rough-legged Hawk, Peregrine Falcon, Merlin, and other Falcons. Other winter residents may include: Cackling Goose, Trumpeter Swan, Northern Shrike, and several Duck species.
We will meet at Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre at 12027 Harris Rd, Pitt Meadows. SEE MAP. There are washrooms at our meeting location and port-a-potties near the end of the route. Six pairs of loaner binoculars will be available on a first come first serve basis. In the event of rain, this event will be postponed to a later date.

Nature Vancouver is pleased to announce that Derek Matthews of the Vancouver Avian Research Centre will be our Birder’s Night Speaker on the 7th of November. Derek will be speaking to us on Planning and Creating a Bird and Wildlife Friendly Garden. This presentation will show people why that is and how they can take advantage of their gardens to help our birds and other wildlife. Whether it is an existing garden that needs a few tweaks or an expansive lawn that is being transformed for the benefit of nature, the presentation is designed to give people a head start in welcoming more birds to their garden and to ensure their outdoor space, whether large or small, will help birds and other wildlife to thrive. The presentation covers: design and layout; water features and feeders; nesting habitat and nest boxes; plants and maintenance.
A passionate ornithologist, avian researcher and conservationist; Derek is the Chair of the Vancouver Avian Research Centre, a Master bird bander (A Master Bander is an individual licensed by Environment Canada to capture and band wild birds) and an NABC (North American Banding Council) Certified Trainer.
