What we’re about
The goal of this group is to ensure that the conservatives do not win in October 2025. Whether you are a member of the NDP, Liberals, or Greens, members of these parties share more in common with each other in fundamental policy decisions (in particular when it comes to social welfare, and having a clean environment), compared to the conservatives (and conservative adjacent parties).
I’m planning on organizing online (and in-person) meetups so that we can come together to discuss ideas and concrete steps toward a good outcome in October 2025 (i.e. towards ensuring that the conservatives do not win, and that parties that share our core values — whether NDP, Liberal, or Green — win a majority of seats in Parliament).
Our largest push would be towards electoral reform, whether it is some form of ranked choice voting (RCV / IRV) or proportional representation (PR). Even based on current polling, electoral reform would ensure that conservatives cannot win in 2025. One thing we can do towards this is to petition all of our NDP and Liberal MPs to pass a bill introducing ranked choice voting ASAP, that goes into effect before the 2025 election. The combined Liberal + NDP votes in Parliament right now is sufficient to pass such an electoral reform bill, but we need to convince our MPs to just do it, without delay or hesitation.
In the most recent Toronto—St. Paul's federal election, the Conservatives got 42.11% of the vote, the Liberals received 40.40% of the vote, the NDP won 11.02%, and the Greens received 2.86%. Even in this election, a combined Liberal+Green vote would have exceeded the Conservative votes, and similarly Liberal+NDP would have easily far outstripped the Conservative votes. This emphasizes that we need electoral reform far more than ever. We need to work together across parties to achieve this.
