What we’re about
Welcome to the Nebraska R Users Group! This group is for anyone in Nebraska who is interested in using R for statistics, data visualization, machine learning, and more. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced R user, this group is a great opportunity to network with like-minded individuals, share resources and tips, and collaborate on projects. Join us for regular meetups, workshops, and discussions to deepen your R programming skills and explore new possibilities in data analysis. Let's come together to learn, grow, and advance our data science journey with R!

See all- Inaugural talk: Extensions to ggplot2 are easy – right? (Heike Hofmann)Nebraska East Union, Lincoln, NE
Please join us for our inaugural talk by Dr. Heike Hofmann from the Department of Statistics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Extensions to ggplot2 are easy – right?
Writing an extension to ggplot2 for your own custom chart is a way to leverage the full force of ggplot2:
you are linking your chart into the grammar of graphics; things like legends, adding additional layers or making small multiples by faceting along other variables just ‘work out of the box’.
On top of that, you are signalling to the large crowd of ggplot2 users that your plot will play nicely with their plots.
… or so things would be in an ideal world.
We will discuss some of the pitfalls we encountered when writing ggplot2 extensions across different packages: some of which have made it onto CRAN, some are even listed as ggplot2 extension packages, … and some are not.
If you have worked with ggplot2 before, and have at times thought that you would like move your specialty chart into a ggplot2 extension, I’d encourage you to come!
You should get a pretty good idea of how to approach writing a ggplot2 extension and where things might get tricky. Bring your laptop and try things out during the talk!Location
We will meet in the Arbor Suite at the University of Nebraska's East Campus Union (1705 Arbor Drive, Lincoln, NE 68503). There is metered parking in the lot just north of the union.Join us at 4:30pm for snacks and conversation, and the talk should start about 4:45pm.
If you cannot join us in person, please join via Zoom. The link will be posted the day of the meeting.
