Join me for another obscure local hike in remote Nelson, NH. There's a lot to see here when we depart from the newish trailhead parking lot. We'll hike out the Holt trail to the summit of Osgood Hill, and then take the Ridge trail to Blacktop and Hurd hills. From there, we'll work our way over to the Kulish Ledges via the Hurd Hill trail, Ethan's Way, the Wheeler, Link and Kulish Ledge trails for a well-deserved lunch stop with a view. After lunch, we'll hike down the Kulish Ledge trail and Priscilla's Path back to the parking lot.

This is a longish hike of 7 miles with about 1300 feet in elevation gain. Along the way there will be outlooks, pretty fields and forest, cellar holes, artifacts in the woods, and a pretty brook with rapids. If time permits and spirits are willing, we can push on to several waterfalls.

COVID-19 is a world-wide crisis and many members are at an elevated risk from this highly contagious illness. Those who are infected can spread the virus even if not experiencing symptoms themselves.
Symptoms/Risks:
Do not signup or come if, within the last 2 weeks you have:

* been ill, had a fever above 100, or had a cold or flu-like symptoms
* been in close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 or its symptoms
* new cough or shortness of breath that is new or worse than your baseline
* loss of sense of smell or taste

This hike is designed to comply with all of the COVID-19 restrictions detailed above.

Directions:

From Manchester, NH:

1. Take Route 93 N to NH 101 W exit toward Manchester airport/I-293 N/Bedford/Manchester for 3.5 miles
2. Keep left at the fork to continue on State Route 101 W for 19.5 miles
3. Use left 2 lanes to turn left to stay on State Route 101 W for 0.8 miles
4. Turn right onto Wilton Road for 12 miles
5. Continue straight to stay on Forest Road for 5.4 miles
6. Continue onto NH-123 N/Main Street for 5.7 miles
7. Turn left onto Bailey Brook Road for 0.7 miles
8. Continue onto Old Stoddard Road for 1.2 miles
9. Turn left into the large trailhead parking lot

NOTE: This hike is contingent on good weather and subject to cancellation in the event of inclement weather.

About Us: This group is for hikers 50-70+ (most of us are 55-65) who haven't given up on their love of hiking and being in nature despite their age or level of physical conditioning. We hike at a pace 50% slower than the AMC Trailguide book time. Hike ratings: easy, easy/moderate, moderate, advanced moderate, moderate/strenuous, strenuous, very strenuous. We start as a group, we hike as a group and we end as a group. If you think you may not be able to keep up with the group, do not carpool.

There are three other hiking Meetup groups if you want a faster pace or more challenging hikes (The New England Hiking Meetup, 4 Seasons Hiking Group, New England Over 40 Hiking Group). The hiking Meetup group, (Fellowship Of The Tortoise) does easier, slower paced hikes than this group.
