What we’re about
Hello,
I'm Thea, the founder of Poly People of Color (PPoC). Throughout my journey, I've always had a deep-rooted understanding of being polyamorous. However, it wasn't until 2020 that I discovered the polyamory community and began my path of self-education.
As a member of various “alternative” communities, I've noticed a pattern: they often lack diversity, especially in NE. Unfortunately, this absence of representation brings forth unique challenges that predominantly impact people of color, and it becomes a significant hurdle in itself to openly and comfortably discuss these challenges in spaces that lack diversity.
Our mission is to create a safe and inclusive space for polyamorous individuals of color, where we can build a supportive community, celebrate our identities, and explore ethical non-monogamy. We aim to foster personal growth, promote open communication, challenge societal norms, and empower each other to navigate polyamory in a way that aligns with our cultural backgrounds and experiences. Together, we strive to cultivate understanding, dismantle stereotypes, and promote love, respect, and authenticity within our relationships and within the broader society.
We appreciate the support and solidarity of all individuals who are allies to our cause. While we welcome support from allies, we want to emphasize that our group's purpose is to provide a safe space for polyamorous people of color. This intentional focus ensures that we can address the specific needs, experiences, and challenges that affect this demographic. We encourage allies to support us in creating a more inclusive and equitable world beyond the confines of our group. Thank you for understanding and respecting our mission. We look forward to connecting with you in other polyamorous spaces and working together to bridge the gaps that exist.
