VALLEY END AND SUNNINGDALE GOLF CLUB (Last done December 2020)

The postcode to use is GU24 8TL. This may take you to Brick Hill as the car park does not have its own postcode. From there if you leave Brick Hill on your right after half a mile you reach the Chobham Common roundabout. Turn left here and the car park is 50 yards away on your right. The address says Ascot but it is less that 2 miles from Chobham centre (not to be confused with Cobham of course).

If Surrey County Council reintroduce parking fees at this car park, I may move the starting point to Valley End.

During lockdown I have spent a lot of time exploring Chobham Common and its neighbour, Sunningdale Golf Club, which is a large swathe of green land in our area. Most of the walk on the golf course is running through woods adjacent to the course but we do cross 5 or 6 fairways which will not be too busy as there are few members. It will be approximately 5 miles.

For the first 35 minutes or so, we are in and out of earshot of the M3 as we pass through woods and the outskirts of Valley End village and then it is through some farmland and woods to reach the A30. A short pavement walk and we are in woods again and up to the golf course which is one of the most famous in the world and one of England's premier courses. It is ranked 2nd on Top 100 golf courses site in England, 9th in Britain and Ireland and 25th in the world. Currently, match fees for a round of golf as a non member is £275, including breakfast or afternoon tea of course. Membership costs? who knows!

Most of the paths seem pretty dry and so it is an ideal winter walk and I hope that you will join me to explore an area unknown to most of you. You will need to wear decent footwear as there is a small muddy part as we leave the golf course.

There are a few slopes but no great climbing is required.
