What we’re about

Welcome. This is a book club where we will explore fiction books written by authors coming from East Asian and Southeast Asian [ESEA], and South Asian, immigrant backgrounds.

The past decade has seen an explosion of genre fiction produced by ESEA and South Asian immigrant writers. Examples include sci-fi and fantasy authors like R.F. Kuang, Tasha Suri, and Ngi Voh. Contemporary fiction authors such as Ruth Ozeki and Gabrielle Zevin. And historical novelists like Twan Tan Eng.

This will be a group for those of us who appreciate these new voices in fiction. For many of us coming from ESEA and South Asian immigrant backgrounds, fiction becomes a place to better understand our experiences. The joy, the pain, and the hard lessons. This is a group for people who enjoy reading books by ESEA and South Asian immigrants, and want to share the joy, the pain, and the hard lessons with others.

My goal is to gather together once a month here in London to discuss a recent work by a ESEA or South Asian author. We can do this at either a cafe or a pub, for an hour or two.

Our initial meetup will be in January 2025. Details will be announced soon.

To participate in the group's events, you must agree to the following.

1. Please refrain from rude and disrespectful behaviour towards other participants and the organizer.
2. Please refrain from verbal attacks on the other participants beliefs or persona.
3. Please do not engage in an off-line harassment of other club members.

Failure to adhere to the above guidelines will lead to expulsion from the group.

Look forward to having you on board this journey.
