Details

Just because Hans has moved to the West Coast and Chinmei is away for a few months doesn't mean we can't have Burgundy wines! Join me as I dig into my cellar for night of Burgundy (again!) with the delicious food and service of Nice Matin. I will pull from my newly reorganized cellar (Thanks to Heather!), 1 white Burgundy, 1 red Beaujolais (which is part of Burgundy) and 3 red Pinot Noir Burgundies. Should be a great tasting.

Nice Matin is located at 201 W. 79th Street, the corner of Amsterdam Ave.

** The cost of this event is $47 and is for the cost of the wines.

NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It is annoying and confusing, but there is nothing I can do about it. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event.

Just a reminder of our usual rules:

You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). You will be expected to order at least 2 dishes (an appetizer and a main, or main and dessert) to help support the restaurant.

Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $5 service fee.

Please use public transportation - NO DRINKING AND DRIVING!

The Wines (notes will be distributed at the dinner):

2019 Domaine Michel Mallard & Fils Ladoix 1er Cru Les Gréchons Blanc ($55) -CT 93.5, from the importer, "This is an upper slope, limestone driven delight of a wine that truly drinks like a baby Corton Charlemagne. This stuff is plain awesome, and very much under the radar for white Burgundy lovers who prize salty/mineral tension allied to very tonic, medium weight fruit flesh."

2022 Domaine Richard Rottiers Moulin-à-Vent Dernier Souffle ($29) - "The 2022 Moulin-a-Vent Derniere Souffle comes from the parcel behind the cemetery (as the name suggests). This has vivacious red cherry and cranberry scents on the nose, hints of cassis just in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine line of acidity, fresh and saline with a brisk, graphite-tinged finish. This is an adorable Moulin-a-Vent that takes your breath away."

2003 Domaine des Chezeaux Griotte-Chambertin ($125) - CT 92.6, I purchased this at auction December 2015 and have enjoyed a few bottles and then I LOST THEM IN MY CELLAR! But with thanks to Heather, I found them! Let's enjoy this one together...

2021 Domaine Glantenay Volnay Vieilles Vignes ($60) - Allen Meadows, ""(from vines of at least 60 to as old as 92 years of age located in Les Buttes, La Gigotte, Les Combes and Petits Gamets). A more deeply colored robe is followed by a slightly riper array of plum, black cherry and a similar hint of crushed anise. There is better density to the precise, intense and richer medium weight flavors that possess a polished mouthfeel before terminating in a bitter cherry and lightly austere finish that offers better depth and persistence. (88-91)/2029+"

2018 Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Au Closeau ($80) - CT 92.8, I couldn't find any reviews for the 2018 ( I must have deleted the original offering), but here is some information, "nother 1er cru site unique to Drouhin Laroze that Nico has continued to refine, this was very impressive to me last November for its sense of refined finesse. They own 80% of this small cru below Mazis Chambertin Grand cru, and are the only to bottle it. From deep, rich clay soils, it is a very vigorous site.

Allen Meadows on the 2020 "from vines planted in 1943; vinified with 25% whole clusters). An airy nose reflects notes of red currant, wild blackberry and plenty of floral wisps. Here too the mouthfeel of the medium weight flavors is relatively refined with good vibrancy that carries over to the slightly more complex and persistent finish. (89-92)/2028+"
