Details

Join us on Saturday, November 30th for a fun, challenging, and rewarding hike in the Hudson Highlands! Scenic views overlooking the river, beautiful forest, and stunning rock formations.

If you plan to take the Metro-North, we can meet at Grand Central at 8:30am to take the 8:50am Hudson line train which will arrive at the Breakneck Ridge stop at 10:19am.

If you are driving, please meet us at the Metro-North Breakneck Ridge station by 10:30 am.

For our return trip, we have the option to get the train back to the city at 3:14pm or 4:14pm depending on how long it takes us to finish the hike.

We will be hiking the Long Loop: Breakneck Ridge (white) > Breakneck Bypass (red) > Wilkinson Memorial (yellow)
The hike should take approximately 4 hours.
At approximately 4 miles and 1400 ft ascent it is short but very steep.
We will hike at a moderate pace with breaks for water, snacks, lunch, and many opportunities for photos.

Breakneck Ridge is considered one of the most difficult hikes in the area. There is a lot of strenuous rock scrambling involved. Previous hiking and rock scrambling experience is recommended. Please make sure you’re comfortable with the hike’s difficulty level before joining, as the start of the trail is one-way and we will not be able to turn back early.

Please wear:
-Sturdy hiking shoes/boots with good traction
-Layers appropriate for Late Autumn colder weather

Please bring:
-3 Liters of water
-Lunch
-Snacks
-Sunscreen
-Personal first aid kit

We will follow Leave No Trace principles. https://lnt.org/why/7-principles/

It is helpful to monitor weather conditions as the day of the hike nears. If there is rain the day before or day of, the trail will be too hazardous to hike. RAIN WILL CANCEL EVENT.
