Amsterdam city of ‘meedoen'

If you are looking for meaning, and feel called to make a difference in other peoples lives yourself, this event is for you.

The First Supper invites you to an evening of inspiration and connection to what Amsterdammers call: “meedoen”. Our venue will be a unique place and community that will open its doors especially for us: Wereldhuis. Wereldhuis’ mission is to contribute to the lives of undocumented people in Amsterdam in a variety of ways. Located in the historic cellars of the Protestantse Diaconie, it is a beautiful venue for our evening, in the heart of historic Amsterdam.

During this unique experience you will:

• Learn about both the fascinating historical- and contemporary role of the Diaconie, today best summarized in “meedoen”. This will come alive through the story of Wereldhuis.
• (Guided) walk and talk to explore the exterior of the venue, the buildings, a visit to a historic interior room, the peaceful garden and nearby Amstel river. A good moment to connect to what meedoen may mean in your own walk of life
• Enjoy a seasoned supper in a historic cellar, cooked and prepared by the Wereldhuis foundation. We will enjoy a meal that in daytime nourishes the hearts and souls of the regular guests, in the evening it will nourish ours.
• Make new friends, within a welcoming community. Find out something special happens when we connect more deeply at the table. Discover how the conversation may reveal what calls you in your walk of life
• Icing on the cake: A frank and open sharing prior to our supper by a Wereldhuis volunteer and a non documented Wereldhuis guest about making a difference in eachothers lives will certainly fuel our plenary discussion

You will be hosted by Robert, founder of The First Supper, as well as co-hosts from Wereldhuis and Diaconie. We will meet at 5.30 PM in front of Nieuwe Heerengracht 18 to meet-up, learn where we are and start our guided walk. After the storytelling by our Wereldhuis hosts, the supper will be served in the historic cellar of the Corvershof building, where it is cooked and served in the kitchen of Wereldhuis. The evening will be concluded by ~9.30 PM.

Whether you come to reflect, listen, or just enjoy good company and a tasty meal: This supper is your opportunity to meet up with Amsterdam locals and visitors from all backgrounds and nations, to connect, share stories, have a deeper, meaningful conversation and listen to what calls us today in contemporary Amsterdam.
