**THREE DAYS AND TWO NIGHTS**

Was suggested we return to Valley of Fire to tackle the hiking trails. Bring your hiking shoes, poles and other hiking stuffing. We will stop by the visitor center and check with the park ranger for additional information before getting started.

The Valley of Fire consist of bright red Aztec sandstone outcrops nestled in grey and tan limestone mountains. The sandstone is from the Jurassic period and is a remnant of the sand left behind by the wind after inland seas subsided and land rose.

Here are the recommended hikes:

* **Fire Wave Trail**: This easy 1.5-mile trail starts in the sand and follows small stone cairns along slickrock formations to the base of Fire Wave Rock. This hike can get crowded, so go early and bring plenty of water. (1st hike of the day)
* **Petroglyph Canyon via Mouse's Tank Trail**: This easy hike is just under a mile long and famous for its petroglyphs. The trail takes you through a narrow box canyon filled with petroglyphs created by the Basketmaker people. You’ll discover rock formations, like Elephant Rock and the Beehives, and a left-hand spur trail will bring you to Mouse's Tank, a smooth sandstone ledge that looks into a pool of water.
* **White Domes**: This 1.1-mile heavily-trafficked loop includes a slot canyon and beautifully colored rocks, complete with small caves and windows. Remains of an of old movie set. (sandy area)
* **Balance Rock:** 0.4 mile out and back near the Visitor Center. (we will check with the park ranger for directions)

**NOTE**: There is no café or snack bar inside the park. A quick stop to pick up lunch before heading out for our day of hiking.

Step back in time to Oatman, once a booming mining area that's now a ghost town and popular tourist attraction. Here, you can check out the little shops, visit the town’s jail and museum, stop for a drink at the old saloon, and get up close with the Oatman's famous tiny donkeys. You can feed and pet the free-roaming and friendly burros, who aren't shy to approach travelers for a treat. The town is a great stop along Route 66 before heading to Kingman.

We will head to Laughlin after hiking though Valley of Fire. We will be staying at the Riverside Casino. The following morning we are off the visit Oatman as was head for home.

Overton is about 6+ hours from Phoenix. Shared cost for rental van and entry fees are included, $110. We will be stoping as need to stretch our legs, meals and gas.
