What we’re about
Tired of worrying about offending peers with a character or story that stands athwart mainstream political ideology? Ever been told your participation in a group made someone feel “unsafe,” “unseen,” or “unheard?” Ever suffered criticism of your work as “hetero-normative” or otherwise “triggering?”
Welcome to a bold fellowship that needs no guardrails besides our code of respect, requires no “trigger warnings” for content no sane person would consider obscene, and doesn't encourage members to offer pronouns.
This group is not itself right, left, conservative, or liberal. It’s a fellowship for writers who value freedom of expression and the pursuit of good art first, facts second, and feelings a distant last. Work shared in this group need not respect any ideology, but it may argue for one, even passionately.
Hobbyists, new writers, published authors, and those aiming at publication are all welcome. Our mandate is to create and share work, help each other improve with well-meaning, constructive feedback, and build a community of writers to share advice, support one another, make friends and find literary peers.
Members may read up to 2,000 words from a piece of fiction. Those reading work must print copies sufficient for the number of members who RSVP. Though never required, members are encouraged to provide written feedback on their handout of the piece and take a turn giving a verbal “hot take” after the reader has finished reading their work aloud.
Our fellowship meets on the first Saturday of the month, 1pm to 4pm at Five Elements close to Bay Station.
