Several of us went on a Snow Moon showshoe with Lassen Park Rangers this winter and for me it was a dazzling experience. It was on the night of a full moon. Just look at the photo.
Wow!!
I've asked the Rangers if they plan another Snow Moon adventure, though the full moon falls mid-week. I wonder if they would find a 93% moon enough, partly because it's on a weekend. I would.
So I'm planning this on a Saturday evening. I can adjust if the Rangers have a different thought.
They allowed a maximum of 25 people on their excursion and I'm a little concerned about handling that number on my own.
They had 4 Rangers and volunteers to keep the group together. In the dark, it's different.
You'll want to dress for winter outdoors and have a pair of snowshoes. Also, have a redlight flashlight or head lamp. And bring snacks and a warm drink.
We meet at Sportsman's off Hilltop at 3:45pm and will be off by 4pm. I hope to be on snow by 6 pm. We should be back in Redding by 10pm.
I'll update with any changes as the date approaches.
