This favorite hike of mine will be a celebration of the beginning of Spring 2025, and Burstarse Falls should be in full form!!

The hike from Dog Trail, about 3 miles west of Castle Crags State Park, is about 6 miles in/out total. The first half mile is open and where the major elevation gain is. From the junction with the PCT, the rest of the trail is shaded and a nice casual hike to the point where we drop off the trail.

There are two water crossings that could run high depending on snowmelt. And then a careful passage along some exposed rock.

This is late spring so plan accordingly. You'll need food/snacks and water along with personal comfort items in your pack. I suggest a layer or two of clothing because it can get mighty cool in the small canyon that leads to the bottom of the falls.

We meet at Sportsman's off Hilltop at 7:15 and are off by 7:30. My plan is to start from the TH by 8:30. If you are coming direct, we'll be at the Chevron at Castella about 8:15, and the Dog Trailhead (PCT access) about 8:30.
