A hike on the Pacific Crest Trail above Lake Britton is on tap with the destination of Rock Creek Falls.

The Falls should be on full display with the recent wet weather and the forecast thus far shows partly cloudy weather with mild temps for this time of year.

This is an 8 mile RT hike that I would rate as easy to moderate with some great views and a water fall where we turn around. We'll be in cover for the first mile or so. This is a moderate hike and after the first mile we'll break into the open with some serene views of the Pit River Canyon.

The PCT trail then follows along ridges until we reach the canyon with Rock Creek, ending at the falls and a bridge over the creek.

I am happy that I discovered this section because it does sit in a rain shadow. I backpack and overnighted there. It's less than 90 minutes from Redding to boot.

You’ll need snacks, water, warm drink perhaps, layers and personal comfort items. Dress for the weather and that would include rain gear. We’ll be in open terrain so even an umbrella would be handy.

We meet at Sportsman's Warehouse off Hilltop at 7:30 and leave promptly at 7:45.
