This hike provides great views of the Marin Headlands, the coast and ocean. We will start at the Rodeo Beach parking lot and take the Coastal trail north up to the Miwok Trail, then back down to the Coastal Trail, along the south side of Rodeo Lagoon and along the beach before returning to the starting point. We will enjoy views along the bluffs above the ocean and across to Tennessee Valley and a short detour to Hill 88, the former launch site for Cold War missiles (photo above) where there are big views of Rodeo Lagoon, Rodeo Beach and the coast.

This is a moderately strenuous hike with some fairly steep inclines and descents and some rough and rocky stretches that require good footing. Our pace will be a little more than 2 mph.

Total distance is about 5.5 miles with around 1100 feet of elevation gain. Hiking conditions will vary greatly depending on the weather and season, so prepare accordingly for wind, sun, heat, rain and mud. Note that while this route often offers beautiful views, it is sometimes shrouded in heavy fog with chilly breezes.

As usual for our group, we’ll check out wildflowers, birds, or whatever natural features grab our attention along the way. We will stop for a snack break at the midpoint of the route, where there's a great 360 view.

Rain Cancels
Rain will cancel the hike. If that’s the case I’ll make the decision and send the notification by 7 am on the morning of the hike. No news is good news!

There are bathroom facilities at the trailhead.

Time
Meet at 9:00 and start hiking soon thereafter so please be prompt and ready to hike.

What to bring
Layers for varied weather including wind, hiking shoes, lunch and snacks to eat along the way, at least a quart of water, sun protection, and your happy attitude.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome. Leashes are required in some areas.

No-show policy
If you're signed up and can't make it, please cancel by 3 p.m. the day before the hike so those on the waitlist can attend. If you don't attend and haven't contacted the organizer, you will be marked as a no-show. Repeat no-shows will be removed from the group. Thanks for being considerate of your fellow nature enthusiasts.
