The hike takes us through two pretty Marin Open Space preserves in San Geronimo Valley. It is a figure 8 route offering stretches through redwood and mixed deciduous woods, a large meadow, and a ridge with great views of the valley.

We will start at the parking lot of the former San Geronimo Golf Course and take a moderate single track trail through Roy's Redwoods. Leaving Roy's, we cross Nicasio Road and proceed up to Thorner Ridge Preserve, and then descend back down to the meadow and former golf course near Lagunitas School. We complete the route with an easy walk back to the parking lot. The total distance is a little less than about 5.6 miles with about 600 feet of elevation gain, including a fairly steep ascent and descent. Expect some muddy trail conditions during winter and spring.

As usual for our group, we’ll check out wildflowers, birds, or whatever natural features grab our attention along the way. We will stop for a snack break. Our pace will be a little more than 2 mph, meaning hiking time of just under 3 hours and some additional time for a snack break.

Rain Cancels
Rain will cancel the hike. If that’s the case I’ll make the decision and send the notification by 7 am on the morning of the hike. No news is good news!

Directions
We will meet in the parking lot at the former San Geronimo Golf Course at 5800 Sir Francis Drake Blvd. just east of the junction with Nicasio Valley Road. Note that parking is NOT accessible off Nicasio Valley Road. There is plenty of parking available in the lot.

There is a portable bathroom at the parking lot but none along the route.

Time
Meet at 9:30 and start hiking soon thereafter so please be prompt and ready to hike.

What to bring
Layers for varied weather including wind, hiking shoes, snacks to eat along the way, at least a quart of water, sun protection.

Dogs are welcome. Leashes are required in some areas.

No-show policy
If you're signed up and can't make it, please cancel by 3 p.m. the day before the hike so those on the waitlist can attend. If you don't attend and haven't contacted the organizer, you will be marked as a no-show. Repeat no-shows will be removed from the group.
