Back by popular demand! Bike Bedford to Boston's Seaport and lunch (brown bag) at the inspirational Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA).

Calling all warmhearted, fun-lovin', humorous NSBFF cyclists! Join our courageous crew for a repeat performance of the one-and-only, EPIC 37-mile adventure. It kicks off at the Bedford Depot on the legendary Minuteman Commuter Bikeway (MMCBW), Alewife Linear Path, and Somerville Community Path (SCP), gliding through their recent extension into the streets of affluent Cambridge via Morgan Ave. We'll pedal past REI, North Point Park, North Bank pedestrian bridge, under the Zakim Bridge, past the skateboarding park, and through Paul Revere Park. We will cross the N. Washington St Bridge together into the historic North End. We'll breeze by Columbus Park and into the Rose Kennedy Greenway (with a brief stop at the Cooling Towers) before passing Rowes Wharf, and onto the Seaport Blvd Bridge, and take a left onto Sleeper St. This leads us straight to the welcoming embrace of the Seaport's Fan Pier and Harborwalk.

We'll gently and cautiously pedal on Fan Pier and make a stop at the Harborwalk Marina Overlook, climbing its 20+ steps to the open platform offering a stunning view of Boston's Inner Harbor, Charlestown, and Logan Airport in East Boston. With the harbor and cityscape as our backdrop, we'll snap our famous NSBFF group picture to commemorate our friendship. Public restrooms are also available.

Afterward, we'll hop back on our bikes for a micro-pedal to the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) and enjoy our brown bag lunches and laughter-filled conversations in the shaded, expansive bleachers overlooking the picturesque harbor. So join your biking friends and share your positive Karma towards creating a wonderful cycling experience to remember!

Stops:
Stop 1: Lexington Center public bathrooms and water fountain (5 minutes)

Stop 2: Arlington Center at the Uncle Sam statue: Regroup only in order to cross busy Mass Ave safely as a unified group.

Stop 3: Davis Square MBTA station. Regroup before entering onto the Somerville Community Path Extension.

Stop 4: Paul Revere Park. Regrouping point before crossing over the busy N. Washington St Bridge (Note: the bridge us under construction; we’ll proceed with caution).

Stop 5: Rose Kennedy Greenway - cooling towers (photo #2)

Stop 6: Harborwalk Marina Overlook - bathrooms and group pictures!

Stop 7: Lunch (brown bag) at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA). A well-deserved rest and lunch break at a beautiful location like the ICA provides a perfect opp for us to refuel and connect with one another.

IMPORTANT: Our biking route winds its way through the various neighborhoods. There are numerous road crossings, and there can be A LOT of foot traffic, more than we typically encounter on the bikeway itself. We will therefore proceed at a moderate pace on our bikes. Also, let's try to stay together (regroup stops) since it's easy to get lost if you've never been here before.

The nitty gritty for this ride...

Length: Approximately 37-mile round trip, Bedford to the Seaport’s ICA.

Trail details: Entirely paved; numerous road crossings.

Suggested bike type: Any bike

Pace: Moderate (10-12 mph), with several stops along the way to regroup. We do not leave anyone behind.

Parking: Arrive early, as this is a popular destination. Free public parking is available right at the Bedford Depot park. There is additional parking behind Bikeway Source. See the maps in the photo section.

Bike helmets are mandatory on our rides.

IMPORTANT: Be sure your bike is in good working order! Tires should be in good shape and pumped up, gears should shift smoothly, and your brakes should be properly adjusted. If possible, pack a spare tube in case of a flat. A hand pump or CO2 inflator is also desireable, though not absolutely necessary, as many riders will already have them.
