NOTES_1: This meet-up is way out, so I may change the location if I find a spot that has a better view of the moon rise.
NOTES_2: Just a reminder for anyone going to this meetup. Since there will be multiple photographers shooting, stray light from flashlights, headlights, phones etc, can easily ruin folks exposures. So if you're coming to this meetup, please be courteous and do not turn on any flashlights/headlamps, phones etc. without first asking if anybody is exposing. Sorry if this sounds cranky, but this will be the last full lunar eclipse that'll be visible in our parts for several years.
Let's shoot the Total Lunar Eclipse on the evening of March 13 thru the wee hours of March 14, 2025. Here's an opportunity to practice shooting the moon as it transitions from full brightness to full eclipse (no it won't disappear, but it will take on an eerie red hue). This will challenge your camera skills.
If you're using a telephoto lens, you'll constantly have to re-acquire the moon as it moves out of your frame. As it darkens you'll likely need to adjust your exposure settings.
If you're using a wide angle lens, this is a great opportunity to create either a time lapse, or a composite image showing the moon as it transforms from full brightness to it's dark ruddy hue at full eclipse.
Yup, it's gonna be cold, so put on your long johns and bring a thermos of coffee or hot cocoa.
