The walk starts from the gravel car park next to Bollihope Burn, at the junction between the access road to Lower Bollihope Caravan Park and the minor road from Frosterley. We start with a short tarmac section, which gives way to a track that will take us past disused mine working and grouse butts to Pawlaw Pike, the highest point on the walk. We will then turn north east on a gradually descending high level path that leads round Five Pikes and past the Elephant Trees. We will then head down steeply in places, on the Weardale Way. We will return to our cars on the path beside Bollihope Burn
There are no toilets at the start/finish
Expect some muddy sections. Short road sections
After the walk we could go to the Pack Horse Inn, Stanhope for refreshments.
This walk requires a reasonable level of fitness and is approx 5 hours including breaks.
Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing for the time of year and expected weather; waterproofs, walking boots/shoes, also a backpack for carrying your food and water etc.
**Dogs:** Well behaved dogs are welcome – on short lead in sight of livestock, where signed and on narrow pathways.
