Belfast Humanist Heritage Walk

Details

This Walk is now open to everyone whether you’re a teacher or not. Please REGISTER HERE to join Trustee of Northern Ireland Humanists Iain Deboys to explore the rich secularist and humanist heritage of Belfast. Encompassing champions of religious and civil liberty, abolitionists, activists, artists, and educators, this led walk will introduce a whole new vision of the city, shedding light on the people who championed causes and lived by values still at the heart of humanism today. registration is essential.
The walk will begin at the Mary Ann McCracken statue at City Hall at 1:00PM, on Donegall Square North, where you’ll hear about the 18th century Belfast radicals who agitated for free speech and equality, inspired by Enlightenment ideals. From there, the route winds through the city, with regular stops and a rest break at The Mac, bringing us through 19th century freethinkers up to present day campaigns, with plenty of opportunity for questions and conversation.

The walk is around 3km, and will finish back at City Hall around 4PM

This Humanist Belfast Tour is a companion to an in-app Go Jauntly walk of the same name: a free, self-guided tour of Belfast accessible on your mobile phone through the Go Jauntly app.
