NSV Monthly Shape Note Singing
Details
Shape note singing is a form of traditional a capella choral music whose roots in America stretch back into the Colonial period and beyond. Characterized by open harmonies and a distinctive sound, the music is designed primarily for participation, rather than performance. There is no rehearsal, no performance. We merely sing for ourselves and each other.
Singers of all levels are most welcome - from absolute beginners to skilled sight-readers. The texts are religious, but this is a community of people of many different belief systems. LGBTQ+ friendly!
We sing on the 3rd Saturday of every month, 3 to 6 pm, with some intermittent breaks, and a potluck supper after. You are welcome to arrive late, or leave early - It's a casual affair.
We sing from the Shenandoah Harmony and the 1991 edition of the Sacred Harp - Extra tunebooks are available for loan.
Location: Singing Hall, NSV, 2336 Salem Church Rd, Boyce VA 22620
Every 3rd Saturday of the month until January 18, 2025
