After a number of requests I have put together a walk of about 7/8 miles from Newburn Riverside car park to take in some local history. We cross the Tyne and head for the site of Blaydon Races and then on to Scotswood bridge where the memory of that great Tyneside oarsman Harry Clasper is fondly remembered. Over Scotswood bridge to the Hadrians Way and the site of the former Scotswood railway station in the process of being revitalised by the local history group. We then visit the statue and memorial garden to the Montagu pit disaster of 1925 that cost 38 lives. On we go through the woodland of Denton Dene to the sections of Hadrians Wall on the West Rd and a welcome coffee break at Denton Burn library. We then rejoin Hadrians Way to head back through the Percy Pit Nature Reserve to our starting point and a welcome drink at the Tyne Rowing Club for those who fancy it.
