What we’re about
Welcome to the Northumbria Walking Group, a Ramblers affiliated group based in and around Newcastle Upon Tyne in the North-East of England.
Our group was originally founded to encourage younger walkers into the Ramblers community.
Most of our walks and events are focused around the weekends and evenings.
We get out regularly to Hadrian’s Wall, the Cheviots, the Northumberland coast, North Yorkshire, the Tyne valley, Teesdale, Wear Dale and the Lake District. Our walks range from short 5-8 mile easy rambles to longer 11-16 mile full-day hill walks. There are regular weekends away further a field to places such as Scotland, the Lake District, Loch Lomond, the Yorkshire Dales and Snowdonia. Occasionally we have gone overseas.
Members are based in Newcastle and the surrounding areas such as Durham, Sunderland and Northumberland but we regularly host Ramblers members from all over the country. Social events include regular pub nights and meals out.
We allow a free months trial membership and you can attend any event on our calendar. We do ask after your 1 month trial if you wish to keep walking with us, that you join the Ramblers here: https://www.ramblers.org.uk/get-involved/join-the-ramblers.aspx and allocate your membership to the Northumbria Walking group. Otherwise we have to limit your access to group activities after the trial period.
For further information about what we do take a look at our website: www.northwalk.org.uk or our public Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/northumbriawalking
We hope you choose to join our group!
Kind regards,
James Connolly - NWG Chair.
