Ebey's Landing
Details
For those of us avoiding the traffic on I-90, here is a last-minute opportunity to hike up north on Friday. It’s been almost exactly a year since we did this classic Northwest hike. Always a favorite, this fairly easy hike has fantastic views, both out over the Strait of Juan de Fuca and also of historic buildings and landscapes -- and hopefully some shore birds too.
We will meet at the trailhead on the beach (near the restrooms) so we can walk the beach before the high tide that happens at 2:30 p.m. The trailhead is near the curve where Ebey’s Landing Road turns into Hill Road. It's called the Bluff Trail on Google maps and Apple maps. WTA calls it the Ebey's Landing Trailhead, and provides driving directions in the second set of directions on the Ebey's Landing hike description. (We will not meet at the Prairie Overlook by the cemetery, which is where we usually meet).
Let’s plan to start hiking at around 10:30 AM. That means those coming from the Seattle area should plan to take the 9 AM ferry from Mukilteo. It’s about a 45 minute drive from the Clinton ferry landing to the trailhead. As I write this the weather forecast is partly sunny, 50% chance of rain, and high near 50° (2 degrees warmer than Nov. 25, 2023, when Larry led this hike last year). Larry will be with us in spirit, so let's hope we get his weather magic too.
